Sidney Sipho, südafrikanischer Schriftsteller, * Krügersdorp 1932; Lyriker, Erzähler, Herausgeber und Leiter der Künstlergewerkschaft FUBA; verwendet häufig Sprachmuster aus dem Alltag der Townships. International bekannt wurde sein Gedichtband »The Soweto I love« (1977; deutsch »Soweto, das ich liebe«), der wie seine beiden Romane »The root is one« (1979) und »A ride on the whirlwind« (1981) aus der Perspektive eines Augenzeugen über die blutige Unterdrückung der Protestbewegung in Soweto berichtet.
